Subtitle File Quality Control

We review existing subtitle files for structural and technical issues and return a clear issue report, plus a corrected file where the fix is within the agreed scope.

Suitable for

  • Teams receiving subtitle files from several vendors
  • Producers preparing a file for upload to a video platform
  • Anyone whose player rejects a subtitle file

Source materials required

  • The subtitle file(s)
  • The target player or platform, if known
  • Your readability rules, if any

Deliverables

  • An issue report per file
  • A corrected file, where correction is within the basic scope

Included

  • Automated: invalid timestamps, malformed cue blocks, incorrect numbering, empty entries, overlapping cues, cue order, line-length and reading-speed rules, file encoding
  • Manual: review of flagged items, obvious formatting inconsistencies, and whether reading durations look reasonable in context

Not included

  • Checking that text matches the spoken audio (requires source media and is quoted separately)
  • Transcription and translation

Technical limitations

We do not certify that a file meets a broadcaster's or streaming platform's specification unless that specification has been identified and tested as part of the quotation.

Revision policy

One consolidated correction round is included for deviations from the agreed specification, reported within the review window stated in your quotation. Changes to the original scope (new text, new timing references, new style rules) are quoted separately before any work is done.

Turnaround

Turnaround is estimated per project from total duration, file count, source-material quality and current workload, and is confirmed in writing in your quotation before work begins. Rush delivery can be requested and is confirmed only if capacity allows.

Frequently asked questions

Which checks are automatic?

Structure, timestamp syntax, numbering, order, overlaps, line/character rules and encoding are checked automatically. A person then reviews every flagged issue before the report is sent.
